Hyundai Canada released pricing for its updated 2012 Genesis sedan, which will start at $39,999, or $1,000 above the 2011 model. In addition, a range-topping R-Spec variant will be available for the first time in the country, much to the delight of sporty driving enthusiasts.

The latter will retail for $53,499 and use a brand-new, direct-injected, 5.0-litre V8 engine producing 429 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque.

V6-powered Genesis models will be more powerful than ever with the help of direct injection. They are rated at 333 horsepower, up from 290.

A new 8-speed automatic transmission will come standard across the line, while lane departure warning will be optional.

Expect no fewer than 8 airbags, stability control, leather seating surfaces and a smart key system with push-button start.

The Premium package ($44,999) will add 18-inch wheels, a 14-speaker surround sound system and a navigation system with 7-inch touchscreen and backup camera.

The more upscale Tech package ($49,499) will include all of the above plus lane departure warning, adaptive headlights, 8-inch touchscreen interface, ventilated driver's seat and 608 watts of auditory fun.

As for the design, the 2012 Hyundai Genesis will stand out from its predecessor with a revamped front grille, larger air intakes, new rocker panels and taillights as well as asymmetric exhaust tips integrated to the rear bumper.
