For all your audiophiles out there, you’ll be reaching for the Kleenex box when you hear this next tidbit of information: Fender has teamed up with VW (a first for Fender and the auto industry) to bring the Beetle a sound unlike any other Volks has ever had. And I have to say, it doesn’t disappoint. Perhaps it’s the acoustics of the Beetle (the domed shape, maybe?) but the sound was crisp with deep, clear lows and a rumbling bass that had me turning up the volume for all the best parts.

Driving the narrow, winding roads of Germany can be thrilling in any car, really, but there was something truly special about traversing this historic city and its outer boundaries in a car that carries with it so much history. On more than one occasion I got second-takes, points and even pictures taken with iPhones and cameras. People are taking notice of this V-Dub, and for good reason.

It may have been bred from a time in history most would like to forget, but VW has successfully designed and engineered a vehicle that will forever be in our collective conscience and on our roads.
