With a well-crafted and fine-finished passenger cabin, this versatile, roomy, and comfortable crossover behaves reliably.

Cons
A slow steering response, restricted visibility, a great deal of costly options as well as the hike in fuel consumption for AWD are a few of the crossover’s let-downs.

Price
The SLE-1, the Terrain’s basic model, costs $28,695 while the SLE-2 starts at $31,145. The SLT-1 is available for $32,770 and SLT-2, for $37,250. As for the Denali, it starts at $39,935.

Fuel Economy
In front-wheel drive, the 4-cylinder engine is rated at 9.2 L/100 km in the city and 6.1 L/100 km on the highway. In AWD, ratings climb to 10.1 L/100 km – city and 6.9 L/100 km – highway.

The two-wheel drive V6 requires 4 L/100 km in the city and 8.1 L/100 km on the highway. The AWD V6 is rated at 13.2 L/100 km – city and 8.4 L/100 km – highway.

Exterior Styling
With a prominent grille and boxy wheel wells, this compact crossover is built on the same platform as the Chevrolet Equinox.

Drivetrain
Coupled with a 6-speed, automatic transmission, two engines are on offer for the Terrain: a 4-cylinder, 2.4-litre engine with 182 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque or a 3.6-litre,V6 which delivers 301 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. Both can be set up with front-wheel (standard) or all-wheel (option) drive.

Cargo Capacity
Depending on seat configuration, the Terrain offers between 872 litres and 1,803 litres of storage.

Safety
Six airbags, several active safety technologies as well as the OnStar communication and assistance system enhance security on the 2013 GMC Terrain.
