Subaru's product manager for the Impreza, Akihide Takeuchi, said that ''it would be safe for all of us to have very high expectations'' for the 2013 WRX STI. It's great to hear that, but what should we expect? New details have just surfaced to clear some of the mystery.
For starters, the 2.5-litre, flat-4 engine will reportedly be replaced with a 2.0-litre turbocharged unit delivering more power and fuel economy. A company insider claims that the 2013 model will benefit from 330 horsepower (+8) and 324 lb-ft of torque (+12).
We’re still unsure how the North American-spec WRX STI will differ from the sportier Japanese version, but it’s supposedly scheduled to land in dealer showrooms next summer, first as a 5-door hatchback, then as a 4-door sedan.
