The all-new 2017 Honda Civic Type R is going on sale in Canada today starting at $40,890, the company announced, keeping its promise to offer the car in the low $40K range.

As the most powerful production Honda ever sold in Canada, the track-ready 2017 Honda Civic Type R embodies the brand’s racing spirit, producing 306 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 295 lb-ft of torque from 2,500-4500 rpm thanks to a direct-injected and turbocharged 2.0L DOHC i-VTEC engine. A pre-production model recently claimed the title of world's fastest production front-wheel-drive car on Germany’s legendary Nürburgring Nordschliefe.

Other performance goodies include a short-throw 6-speed manual transmission, a helical limited-slip differential, 245/30ZR20 Continental SportContact 6 high-performance tires, massive 20”x8.5” aluminum wheels in a black finish, as well as 350mm cross-drilled brake rotors clamped by 4-piston Brembo aluminum calipers in front and 305mm rotors with single-piston calipers in the rear.

Let’s not forget the dual-axis strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension (both with anti-roll bars), exclusive springs, bushings and damper mountings, and newly designed Adaptive Damper System with the ability to continuously adjust damping force at all four corners using input from three on-board G sensors, four suspension stroke sensors and a steering angle sensor.

Drivers have three modes to choose from including COMFORT, SPORT and +R.

The 2017 Honda Civic Type R further stands out with an all-aluminum hood, a high-flow exhaust system with three centre-mounted outlets, plus a comprehensive aerodynamic package. Inside, you’ll find red-illuminated performance indicators, a 7” touchscreen Display Audio interface (with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility), navigation with voice recognition, a 12-speaker 542W audio system. The class-leading 727.7 litres of cargo space (rear seats up) should allow you to transport a few spare tires if you like doing burnouts.

Oh, and not that it matters, but for the record, official fuel consumption ratings are 10.6L/100km in the city and 8.3L/100km on the highway.

Stay tuned for a review!
