Setting the tone for the rest of the year in the automotive world, the Detroit Auto Show is one to pay attention to, and one to make some seriously cool reveals. So, Infiniti chose the 2016 edition to unveil its brand new and stunningly designed and engineered 2017 Infiniti Q60 Coupe.
Looking at its lines, it’s clear to see that Infiniti is embracing its performance and driving roots and characteristics, as the president of Infiniti Motor Company Ltd., Roland Krueger pointed out:
“The Q60 launch solidifies our brand shape and design, with a whole new posture along with new technology inside.”
Infiniti is super proud of their Q60 Coupe launch and knows the Detroit Auto Show reveal is big news for Infiniti, and the automotive media has definitely taken note. And how could we not with its incredibly good looks and flowing, smooth lines? After a 3-year growth of 40%, Infiniti is on the up and up with a product lineup that not only showcases their forays into technology, but also their fluid, attractive exterior designs.
However, it’s more than just the Q60’s sexy silhouette that’s the talk of the Motor City today. The 2017 Infiniti Q60 Coupe will feature an all-new 3.0L V6 twin-turbocharged engine. In regular form, said engine produces 300 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. However, bump up to the Red S edition (Note: the Red nomenclature with Infiniti implies performance, whereas Blue refers to hybrid) and you’re looking at 400 ponies. Those are good numbers, numbers we can’t wait to try in the real world.
There will also be a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine available in the Q60 Coupe as well, with power output rated at 208 horsepower.
“Driver-centric is what we do,” Krueger emphasized. And that’s very clear in the overall design and layout of the brand new Q60 Coupe. With a driver-oriented cockpit that features high-contrast stitching throughout the cabin, as well as available aluminum trim or carbon-fibre accents.
Not only is the Q60 Coupe a clear display of Infinit’s ability to make a powerful coupe, but it also showcases the manufacturer’s commitment to safe driving with a host of features such as lane-keep assist, blind spot warnings, all-around cameras and a host of other features that are there to keep the driver both safe and aware of his/her surroundings.
The 2017 Infiniti Q60 Coupe opens up a new way of looking at high performance for the Japanese manufacturer. While other manufacturers might look to off-shoot performance branding (read: M, AMG), Infiniti feels that simply using the word “Red” in its higher-performing version of the Q60 will be enough to set it apart, and that the performance numbers themselves will speak volumes.
Infiniti prides itself on paying close attention to its Canadian market and its specific needs. And as such, the Q60 Coupe launches with cold-weather specs on-hand, such as AWD and heated seats to name a few. And while the Q60 Coupe is primarily a sporty vehicle, it will at the moment be AWD only. However, there will be a RWD model available down the road.
Sale of the 2017 Infiniti Q60 Coupe will start this summer, and we’re definitely itching to get behind the wheel of this dynamic sporty coupe from Infiniti.
