Ford’s absence puts an asterisk

The 2017 Ram 1500 was recently crowned the overall winner of the Canadian Truck King Challenge by a group of seven expert judges from across Canada.

It also won the past two years with the segment-exclusive 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 engine. This time around, the award-winning 5.7L HEMI V8 was fitted under the hood.

After intensive, real-world evaluations over almost 4,000 kilometres, with a focus on capability, fuel consumption, and features―including tests with up to 1,814 kg (4,000 lbs) of payload and 6,803 kg (15,000 lbs) of towing―the 2017 Ram 1500 earned both the half-ton and overall Canadian Truck King Challenge titles by outscoring the 10 other entered pickups, even some new and refreshed competitors.

By the way, the Cummins-powered 2017 Ram 2500 Diesel, won the three quarter-ton category.

There is one big asterisk, however: No Ford truck participated in the Canadian Truck King Challenge this year.
