Significant upgrades translate into increased power

Freshly upgraded for 2018, the new Ford Mustang GT is able to go from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in less than four seconds – an unprecedented feat for the model - thanks to its new Drag Strip mode.

As explained by Carl Widmann, Mustang's chief engineer, this makes it quicker to the 60 mph marker than the Porsche 911 Carrera, which, it’s worth nothing, costs nearly three times as much.

“Typically, when you shift gears, you give up time,” said Widmann. “In Drag Strip mode, the engine torque doesn’t drop when you’re shifting. You get peak engine torque and horsepower straight through thanks to our new Ford-built 10-speed transmission.”

The new gearbox, which replaces the old 6-speed version, is linked to a new electronic control system that employs sophisticated algorithms to ensure precisely-timed gear changes. As for the Drag Strip mode, it delivers the best acceleration of the five modes available to the driver.

The 2018 Ford Mustang GT runs on a reworked 5.0L V8 that now generates 460 hp (25 more than before) and 420 lb-ft of torque (an increase of 20). Buyers can also add to it a performance package that includes custom-designed Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires.

Expect quite an entrance by the new 2018 Mustang GT at Ford dealerships this fall!
