Media day of the New York International Auto Show takes place in just under two weeks, and the teaser images designed to whip up interests in the new models debuting there are beginning to multiply. This time it was Subaru’s turn to reveal a not-very-revealing first image of a model that continues to be highly popular in Canada, the 2019 Subaru Forester.
The photo divulges little about the look of the coming 2019 edition. However, a few spy shots of a camouflaged new Forester did make the rounds in recent months, and they hinted at a format not radically different than before: inclined windshield, tall windows, high roof.
So what does this new photo tell us? It shows a boomerang-shaped light, which seems to indicate that the visual signature of the 2019 Forester could be very similar to what the automaker included on the latest product it launched, the Impreza/Crosstrek duo.
The new Forester will be the fourth Subaru model to feature the company’s new global architecture. This platform debuted with the Impreza in 2016, and was then used in the Crosstrek. The upcoming new Ascent SUV, expected on the market sometime this summer, will also be built on it.
In the United States, the Forester is the second-best seller for Subaru, behind the Outback. It has played a major role in the company’s run of 75 consecutive record-setting months for year-over-year monthly sales. Last year, however, did see American sales – and sales north of the border for that matter – dip, and the trend has quickened this year so far. It would appear, then, that the timing of a redesigned new generation could not be better.
