After giving the sedan and coupe versions of its juggernaut Civic model refreshed last year, Honda does the same with the Hatchback for 2020.
With a base starting price of $24,190 (prior to $1,555 for transport and prep), the 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback gets a modified exterior, mainly via a more-aggressive front end and tweaked rear styling, as well as updated elements inside.
Outside
Exterior changes include new styling for the lower bumper fog light housings, now with a body-colour crossbar. Honda’s signature "wing" grille crossbar is also updated, and the headlights now feature a sporty blackout treatment.
In back, the lower bumper openings get similar changes to the front, also with that new body-colour crossbar. All trims feature new wheel designs, in either dark grey or black. Sport Touring trims also benefit from improved LED headlights with wider and longer light beams.
Inside
The different trim levels of the 2020 Civic Hatchback get distinct dashboard trim. The Sport versions, for example, feature a new geometrical pattern, while Sport Touring trims get an exclusive brushed black treatment. The Sport trim also adds an 8-way power-adjustable driver's seat and unique seat upholstery, and the Sport Touring trims now come with HomeLink service. All Civic Hatchbacks also benefit from additional sound insulation in the floor, trunk, and front and rear fenders.
As for what makes the new Civic Hatchback go, it’s unchanged from last year, so the powertrain is built around a 1.5L 4-cylinder turbo engine (174 hp, 167 lb-ft of torque) working with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or an optional continuously variable transmission (CVT) in a front-wheel drive configuration. The output is slightly higher in the Sport and Sport Touring versions at 180 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque.
