The Singapore-based M.V. Cougar Ace, a cargo vessel that set a record in May 2005 for bringing 5,214 vehicles across the ocean, is in trouble south of the Aleutian Islands, near Alaska.

According to the Vancouver Sun, the Associated Press and Canadian Press, the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Air Force rescued 23 crew members using helicopters.

The Cougar Ace was crossing approximately 4,700 Mazdas (a majority of Mazda3s and CX-7s) from Japan to Vancouver, Tacoma and Hueneme. This might mean trouble for Mazda dealerships, as they could experience a shortage of inventory.
