It's not Porsche's first record, but this time a 911 Carrera has distinguished itself in a whole new arena. Following the inspection of the German DEKRA Car Inspection Authority and the sealing of the fuel tank and engine compartment, the car travelled 648 kilometres while maintaining an average fuel consumption rating of 6.7 litres per 100 km.

Generating 345 hp, the 6-cylinder, 3.6-litre engine puts to the test the competence of the system associated with the 6-speed transmission, the Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe or PDK. To maximize the chances of performing this exploit, Porsche called on a driving expert, ex-auto racer and current host of n-tv Motor Magazine, Klaus Niedwiedz.

With this out-of-the-ordinary performance, the company can now boast of meeting Europe's strictest emissions standards, the Euro 5. To achieve such great fuel efficiency, the driver had to maintain an average speed below 87 km/h and an engine speed between 1,800 and 2,000 RPM.

According to Porsche, this test confirms the success of their efforts in developing energy-efficient technologies. In a short period of time, most of Porsche's products will be equipped with the new DFI (Direct Fuel Injection) technology, increasing fuel efficiency by nearly 12%, and will produce considerably more power and torque.
