ALMS: Lucas Luhr tops quiet Sebring pre-season testing

Lucas Luhr turned the fastest lap at the annual Sebring Winter test, in his Muscle Milk Pickett Racing LMP1 HPD ARX-03a.

Luhr is set to share the wheel with Klaus Graf and Simon Pagenaud at the upcoming 12 hours of Sebring, both the ALMS' and World Endurance Championship's (WEC) opening rounds, and the 60th anniversary of the endurance monument.

The accomplishment by Luhr didn't came as much of a surprise, since his car was the only LMP1 contender present. Nevertheless, it was a first ever outing for the HPD sports car. Expectations are now set high.

"It’s awesome. This is one of the best [HPD] cars I’ve driven," pointed out Pagenaud – who experienced his fare share of HPD/Acura prototypes throughout his car – on ALMS.com.

"It’s such a big evolution from last year’s car. The engine gives us good power, the front splitter gives the car additional downforce and the new tub gives us better efficiency as well."

In GT, Ferrari monopolized the front of the pack. Olivier Beretta, Gimmi Bruni and Toni Vilander all turned laps in a 458 in the name of the mother factory. Corvette and BMW drivers each had a quiet test, in the background of it all.

On the other hand, Porsche representants – Flying Lizard, Paul Miller Racing and Team Falken Tire – had the chance to debut the all new 2012 911 GT3 RSR.
