In the history of Petit Le Mans, Audi has accumulated 9 overall victories in 11 years. But the last two editions were won by Peugeot.

Therefore, Audi will be showing up at Road Atlanta with the intention to win – and its new Audi R18 TDI prototype, racing for the first time in North America.

"For Road Atlanta, there can only be one aim: all-out attack! We've got to finally win there again", said Ralf Jüttner, technical director for Audi Sport Team Joest.

The race is a 1000-mile, or a maximum of 10 hours, long. In North American racing, its up there with the Daytona 24 and the 12 hours of Sebring. It means a lot to the manufacturers. And with 56 entries, everybody will be fighting for space.

"We're expecting a very large field at Road Atlanta. Traffic will be even heavier than usual. It's difficult to overtake at the Petit. There's only one long straight. But that's the same situation for everyone", said Audi driver Marcel Fässler.
