There's no shortage of choices when it comes to "affordable" luxury sedans. There are the entry-level models and the more traditional compact cars that could even be mistaken for mid-size cars at times. This year, there's a twist, as two sedans get identical results, which explains why there are four finalists instead of three.
The BMW 3 Series, a reference in the category, and the Genesis G70, a car that keeps accumulating accolades, are back among the finalists this year, but they now must contend with the revised new Acura TLX and the BMW 2 Series, which, let's remember, is available as a sedan-coupe (2 Series Gran Coupe) or as a two-door coupe (2 Series).

BMW 5 Series - Genesis G80 - Mercedes-Benz E-Class
The midsize segment is more conservative than that of the feisty little guys, and that's reflected in the choice of finalists for 2022. Indeed, apart from the BMW 5 Series dislodging the Audi A7, the return of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class shouldn't surprise anyone, while the presence of Genesis with its G80 has almost become a habit for car award panel members. Let's see if Korean boldness wins out over German classicism.
