2019 Volvo XC40
Volvo has managed to successfully shed its oatmeal sedan and wagon image, and has begun designing some of the prettiest vehicles on the market right now. Add the fact that they also happen to be well-engineered and sporty while still keeping an eye on Volvo’s safety ethos, and you see why they’re well-placed to keep riding that momentum. And so it goes with the XC40, an all-new model from the manufacturer bent on spearheading the rapidly-expanding luxury compact SUV segment. To do so, Volvo is putting a 250 hp, 258 lb-ft turbo four-cylinder underneath that elegantly-sculpted bonnet and behind the signature Thor’s Hammer headlights. It will in turn feed power to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. Also new is the way you’ll be able to acquire one; the release of the XC40 coincides with Volvo’s new subscription service that conveniently bundles up all expenses – from insurance, to maintenance, to car payments – into a single monthly fee.
