10th place: 2021 Toyota Corolla L manual transmission $19,150 + $1,670 in fees
When we did this exercise back in 2018, the most expensive car on that list was… the Toyota Yaris. As you may know, the little Yaris is no longer in the manufacturer's plans. In any case, the Corolla - even in its L trim with manual transmission - is a much better car than the Yaris in terms of both size and comfort. And then there's another aspect to consider with the Corolla: reliability.
