Atlantic: Niemela wins in Salt Lake City

Rookie driver Markus Niemela became the seventh different winner in the Formula Atlantic Championship and remains one of three drivers still in mathematical contention for the championship in the SunRichGourmet.com 1000 at Miller Motorsports Park.

Niemela started from the pole position and led every lap to win over another rookie, American Jonathan Summerton.

Niemela's victory and Summerton's second-place finish coupled with a sixth-place performance by points leader Jonathan Bomarito pushes the championship battle to the season finale at Road Atlanta in two weeks. Just 10 points separate the top-three drivers.

Dane Cameron finished third for Genoa Racing in front of Carl Skerlong for Pacific Coast Motorsports and Simona De Silvestro for Newman Wachs who complete the Top 5.

Canadians James Hinchcliffe and Kevin Lacroix had to settle for, respectively, 10th and 11th place.
