In partnership with Traffic Technology Services (TTS), Audi of America will be launching V2I technology, called Traffic Light Information, this coming fall. The system will feature in selected smart cities as of 2017 in A4, A4 allroad and Q7 models built after June 1 2016.

Customer experience being at the heart of the Audi brand, innovation continues apace at the carmaker in furthering developments in connected cars and driver-assist systems.

The Traffic Light Information system will be offered as part of the Audi’s Connect PRIME option; it will allow cars to communicate with the infrastructures of selected major cities across the United States.

Cars will receive in real time the information signal of the traffic management system that controls traffic lights. The link between vehicles and the infrastructure will be transmitted via the internal data-connection system and the TTS server.

When a car is stopped at a connected traffic light, information indicating the time remaining before the light turns green is relayed to the driver on the dashboard and the Head Up Display (when available).

"In the future we could envision this technology integrated into vehicle navigation, start / stop functionality and can even be used to help improve traffic flow in municipalities,” said Pom Malhotra, General Manager, Connected Vehicles at Audi of America.
