Celebrating the famous ‘Gran Turismo’ cars from Italy back in the fifties, BMW’s upcoming 5-Series Gran Turismo will hit the market this year with an advanced powertrain and unique sense of style. The manufacturer says that customers can expect exceptional space, luxury, and comfort for four passengers—as well as the performance and driving dynamics of a BMW.

The four-door model, which goes on sale initially with a 550i badge, gets frameless windows, innovative interior capabilities and an airy and ‘open’ look inside. BMW says that the 5-Series Gran Turismo boasts head and legroom in the same ballpark as the X5 and 7-Series, respectively.

The cabin is further equipped with fourth-generation iDrive technology and a screen up to 10.2 inches wide.

Power comes from BMW’s 4.4 litre, twin-turbocharged V8 engine. Shared with the BMW X6, the powerplant generates 400 horsepower and a lung-squishing 450 lb.-ft of torque. That’s good for 0-100km/h in 5.5 seconds, and the machine benefits from a new 8-speed automatic transmission like the Lexus LS 460.

With 8 gears, a ‘tall’ cruising ratio, direct injection technology and a slew of other fuel-saving methods, the new 5-Series Gran Turismo should be prove powerful and decent on fuel. Look for the latest from BMW later this year.
