Whitby, Ontario — With the premiere of the R 80 G/S in 1980, BMW established a new market segment — that of the large capacity travel Enduro bikes. Fascinating world trips, spectacular Paris-Dakar victories, amazing customer response: the concept of the 2-cylinder flat twin Enduro with the abbreviation GS became one of the greatest success stories in the history of BMW motorcycles. With the R 1150 GS, launched in September 1999, over 146,000 units have been sold up to September 2001.
For motorcyclists whose dreams lie in the remote corners of the world, BMW Motorrad now presents a real surprise in September 2001 at the IAA (International Automobile Exhibition) in Frankfurt and at the Milan Salon: the new model R 1150 GS Adventure which will go on the market in the spring of 2002.
On the technological basis of the further developed R 1150 GS, the R 1150 GS Adventure is a motorcycle which fulfils even more demanding standards in terms of off-road and long-distance travel with its modified standard equipment and a new special range of special accessories and fittings, and this is reflected in its visual appearance.
OPTIMISED SPRING TRAVEL AND SUSPENSION SETTINGS
Whether on gravel paths, sand tracks, rough terrain or long distances: the chassis of the R 1150 GS Adventure is highly suited to all these even when fully loaded. The spring travel has been increased by 20 mm to 210 mm at the front and 220 mm at the rear.
