"The S40 and V40 will allow us to deliver Volvo's traditional appeal to a new, younger buyer who shares our values," says Brusca. "These cars represent everything Volvo stands for in a compact, more affordable package with a premium brand."
As for this model being affordable, that would depend upon your definition of a car that has a base MSRP somewhere just north of $30,000 and continues up to $35,000 and beyond. The original intent of starting this car under $30,000 was not viable, it now seems.
The U.S.-spec sedan and versatile wagon models going into Volvo Canada's 48 stores come with the following safety features: driver and front passenger airbags with dual-stage deployment, Side Impact Protection System (SIPS) integrated occupant safety design with reinforced 'safety cage' construction, SIPS II side airbags, Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS) rear impact protection seats, three-point seat belts, and head restraints at all five seating positions with pre-tensioners and load limiters on front belts, among other things.
Brusca says the 1.9-litre DOHC inline-4 with its light-pressure turbo will develop 160-horsepower and that will give the front-drive S/V40 models "responsive performance that makes them equally at home in city traffic or on the open road."
More details on the Canadian models will be available prior to their on-sale date, says Brusca.
