Canadian Auto Workers DaimlerChrysler bargaining committee met with their company counterparts today as negotiations intensified with the setting of a strike deadline, 11.59 pm, October 15.

CAW president Buzz Hargrove and CAW DaimlerChrysler bargaining committee chairperson Ken Lewenza emphasized that not only must the pattern settlement be there to avoid a strike but there also must be a resolve to job security concerns at the Pillette Road plant. As well, both leaders expressed concern over the 1,000 laid off workers from the third shift in Brampton which must be dealt with.

The CAW represents approximately 13,000 workers at DaimlerChrysler facilities in southern Ontario.Negotiations are taking place in Toronto's Delta Chelsea hotel.
