On the second round of qualifying, Justin Wilson kept his pole position for the Champ Car finale at Long Beach but he had to work hard to fence out a challenge from Alex Tagliani of Walker Racing team.

Behind Tagliani, Conquest Racing's Franck Perera finished a strong third. KV Racing's Will Power and Forsythe Pettit duo Paul Tracy and Franck Montagny complete the top six.
