With Chrysler now on its own, CEO Tom LaSorda is actively looking to improve its international presence.

A short while ago, Chrysler struck a deal with Chinese automaker Chery Automobile Co. in order to develop much-needed small cars for Chrysler. The deal so far has been approved by the DaimlerChrysler supervisory board. All that is required now is approval from the Chinese Government.

Chrysler realizes that it is important for them to find a partner as their presence in Southeast Asia and Russia is very limited and that they are basically non-existent in India. If they want to be part of these markets' predicted rapid expansion, they seriously need to get a move-on.

The deal with Chery or any subsequent understandings would not change anything concerning Cerberus' take-over of Chrysler. Interestingly, because Chrysler will become a privately-held company, it will therefore no longer need to publicly disclose its financial data.
