BMW Motorrad Motorsport has just announced that ex-Ducati WSBK team manager Davide Tardozzi has been named Team Manager of the BMW team in the Superbike World Championship.

In his new role, Tardozzi manage all personnel and activities at races and tests, act as an main contact with promoters and organizers of the WSBK, and with suppliers. Rainer Bäumel (43) will continue as Head of Project Management and Project Management Engineering for the Superbike project.

Tardozzi was a rider from 1984 to 1992, including two seasons in the 250 cc World Championship. He finished third in the 1988 Superbike World Championship after racking up five race wins, and in 1991 he won the European Superbike Championship title. As a team principal at Ducati since 1995, he has won a total of nine manufacturers' titles and eight riders' titles in the Superbike World Championship.

This is great news for BMW, as they now have an experienced WSBK racer as top man at the track for their second year of world-level racing. This may be the little plus that will turn them into regular podium finishers in 2010, and maybe give them a race win or two on high-speed “Troy Corser” tracks, or in the wet. In fact, Tardozzi claims they will win a championship in 2011!
