Production of the Dodge Journey is set to move from Toluca, Mexico back to metro Detroit by 2016 according to a published report. While Chrysler has not confirmed this will actually happen, but if it does it means that the Journey will be built alongside the Chrysler 200 sedan at Chrysler’s Sterling Heights Assembly plant in Michigan.

The Dodge Journey is built in Toluca, Mexico in order to keep cost down for the rebadged Fiat Freemont model assembled at the same plant and exported to South America and Europe. If production is moved to the USA, it would result in a higher price for the vehicle in those locations.

The Toluca plant is also responsible for building the North American version of the Fiat 500, however, it’s also been reported that the upcoming 500 will move production to its plant in Tychy, Poland.
