Oakley Oil Drum ($255)
Carrying the same optical features of the Oakley Spikes, the Oil Drum glasses have a high-density plastic frame with a new cutting edge style. Oakley credits a recent trendiness in oversized and geometrically dynamic looking glasses for the styling, and the Oil Drum appeals to those looking to make a statement- as these glasses are huge.
My only concern with the OilDrum had to do with the thickness of the arms- while driving I found them to impede peripheral vision during shoulder checks.
The Oakley OilDrum glasses are a fantastic investment for your eyes that doubles as a fashion statement as well.
Serengeti Pisa ($239)
Serengeti is a well known name in eyewear the world over, and within a few moments of sliding on a set of their Pisa driving glasses, you'll have no wonder seeing why. The style is subtle, simple and classical, and they do an absolutely stunning job of both protecting and enhancing your vision behind the wheel.
The most impressive facet of the Pisa glasses is the quality of the optics. In certain lighting situations, vision is improved- sometimes significantly. This has to do with the polarization and spectral control technology built into the lenses. It filters out hazy blue hues, enhances colors and seems to make reflections off of objects with certain lines and curves really stand out. The lenses not only filter out UV light but optimize the types and frequencies of light that make it through- direct or reflected.
James Henderson tried the pair on during a road trip for me and commented "it's like the difference between watching high definition TV or regular TV. I didn't even know glasses could do that- they're incredible."
The only concern is a lack of nose-grips. You may find yourself constantly pushing the frames back up your nose.
The Pisa driving glasses don't scream for attention and come off as a very understated product, but the optical quality is second to none.
Serengeti Celcio ($199)
The Celcio driving glasses carry all of the same features as the Pisa model- though an incredibly lightweight set of slender and flexible arms coupled with frameless construction makes it feel as though you aren't wearing any glasses at all.
The lenses are small and understated, and the whole effect is a simple yet elegant pair of lightweight driving lenses.
Choose the Celcio by Serengeti if you don't like the feeling of wearing glasses but still want to be protected.
With so many options available, you'll certainly find a pair of glasses to suit your style. Look hard enough and you'll find a pair to compliment your wardrobe and your ride. Be sure to consider a pair of Oakleys or Serengetis when shopping- for a great looking combination of style and protective technology.
