Frenchman Alexandre Prémat, driving a 2008 Audi A4 DTM, set the pace on the first day of DTM testing at Valencia on Wednesday. Former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard was second quickest as he evaluates a switch to the German series.

Canadian Bruno Spengler was 4th, but fastest runner of the 2009 cars drivers.

Markus Winkelhock, also driving a 2008 car, made it two Audis in the top three, followed by Spengler.

Ralf Schumacher, who confirmed he will race in the DTM for a third season earlier this week, was only 0.015 seconds slower than his HWA teammate in fifth place.
