Bruno Spengler (C Class Mercedes) clinched victory at Lausitzring, and increased his gap on top of provisional classification.

As they did in the opening round in Hockenheim, the Mercedes dominated the Audi this week-end at Lausitz. The german brand is usually successful on this circuit, with five wins in-a-row since 2005.

After he started from pole position, Paul Di Resta led most of the race, just ahead team mate Bruno Spengler. But the Scot lost time when he stopped for his second tire change, which allowed Spengler to inherit the first position after his own second and last pit stop. Spengler took the win (for the first time since Norisring 2007), ahead of Di Resta and Jamie Green’s 2008-spec C Class Mercedes.

That was another disappointing week-end for Audi. Mattias Ekström had to retire in the very first lap, when he was pushed into a spin, then hit by David Coulthard’s Mercedes. The Swede was second in provisional classification after his win in Valencia, three weeks ago.

Bruno Spengler took his 6th DTM win, and is now leading by nine points in provisional championship classification after three rounds. The next round will be presented at the Norisring, in July, 4th. Spengler won the event twice, in 2006 and 2007.

“We had a very good week-end, told Spengler to auto123.com. The car was fast from the first practice sessions, and in the race. The team made a great job, and I thank them for that result. I am very happy to win again, the last was at the Norisring in 2007. But we have to be careful, the championship is still long. I will keep on doing what I did: to focus race by race.”
