Bruno Spengler (Mercedes Classe C) set his second pole position of the season in Zandvoort, Netherlands.

Spengler, who was already quickest in qualifying for the opening round, two weeks ago in Hockenheim, took the 9th pole position in career, the first one on the dutch track, where he did not succeed to take a podium finish since his DTM debuts in 2005.

The Canadian driver leads his Mercedes team mate Jamie Green by only 15 thousands of a second. Mike Rockenfeller took third place with his factory Audi A4 ahead of semi-private A4 driven by Martin Tomczyk. Gary Paffett (C Class Mercedes), winner of the last two Zandvoort races, took 5th position.

Best rookie was Edoardo Mortara, who classified 7th with his semi-private Audi A4, just behind double DTM champion Timo Scheider (Audi A4).

Meanwhile, Mathias Ekström had a big disapointment. The Swede, who took second place in Hockenheim, and third-time winner in Zandvoort in the past, was surprisingly out of the pace in Q1, and will start from 16th position on the grid for Sunday’s race.

After Audi dominated the free practices, Mercedes took advantage in qualifying. This could be crucial for tomorrow’s race, on a circuit where it’s very complicated to overtake.

“I had a lot of fun during this session, but it was not easy, Spengler explained. The beginning of the qualifying was a bit difficult, then I was able to progress all along the session. The team did again a great job to give me a very performing car, and I would like to thank them all. Today is a great day…”
