His F1 hopes gone for, at least, this year, Nick Heidfeld is poised to switch to sports car racing.
According to a Speed.com report, the German driver has signed with Rebellion Racing for a partial season in the new FIA World Endurance Championship.
Rebellion Racing confirmed last week its participation for the eight-round global championship, with Neel Jani, Nicolas Prost, Andrea Belicchi and Harold Primat.
Two drivers are still to be announced and Nick Heidfeld could be one of them for the 12 Hours of Sebring, 6 Hours of Spa and 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Rumours were placing Heidfeld in DTM, potentially with BMW, but the former F1 driver is still looking for plans for 2012 and would end up at the wheel of a Lola-Toyota.
An official statement is expected soon.
