Jean-Eric Vergne won race 1 at Paul Ricard after he started from pole position. Championship leader Robert Wickens takes 3rd position.

On his home soil, Vergne had no rival during this first day of racing at Le Castellet. The Frenchman started from pole position, and was able to stay in front from lights to flag, with Albert Costa finishing only one second behind him.

Canadian driver Robert Wickens took a podium finish, after he started from 4th position on the grid. Wickens had to defend his position ahead of Brendon Hartley, who finally took 4th place.

Moreover, after meeting in Milan on Thursday to hear an appeal lodged by Carlin, the Court of Appeal of the CSAI (Italian Motorsports Commission) has quashed the time penalty imposed on Jean-Eric Vergne following Race 2 at the Monza meeting in May.

Demoted to third place as a result of the penalty, he collected only 15 points as a result. The Frenchman has now been awarded the win and the 25 points that come with it, altering the championship standings.
