The programme F1 in Schools will determine a new champion during this upcoming week.

The Canadian National Champions - they have already beat 15 teams in the country - will be in Singapore from the 18 to the 24th to convince the World that their 1/20-scale Eclipse F1 car is the best there is within the 26 teams coming from 18 different countries.

The team of five, all students from Dr. Norman Bethune Collegiate Institute, in Toronto East, will be looking for the F1 in Schools World Championship title as well as scholarships to the City University in London.

Sixteen other awards will also be given out, including the Marketing Award and the Fastest Car Award the team is very confident to stand a chance at getting.

Their team focused on innovative shapes, pushing the technical regulations to the edge. They created a CO2-powered race car made out of balsa wood finished with automotive primer as well as ultra-light carbon fibre for the airfoil and even the wheels, making it a super light and aerodynamic prototype.

Adrian Hagar, Rebecca Chu, Joanna Ni, Benjamin Tran and Anthony Wong will be judged not only on the performance of the car they have created, but also from its scores in team marketing, portfolio development and verbal presentation.

The Eclipse team, formed in September 2009 and advised by Professor Mark Mueller, saw their project sponsored by Porsche Cars Canada. The F1 in Schools’ competition was introduced in 2000.
