Formula 1 drivers and leading figures held a three-minute silence in Valencia on Friday as a tribute to the victims of the Madrid plane crash.
Former world champion Fernando Alonso had said on Thursday that he hoped other drivers would join in a special tribute. The event took place at midday, shortly after the conclusion of opening free practice.
Alonso was joined by fellow Formula 1 drivers, plus Valencia officials and leading figures from the sport - including Bernie Ecclestone, McLaren boss Ron Dennis and Williams chief Frank Williams as silence fell over the port area of the track.
