For the first time last year, a professional driver was welcomed to every Grand Prix of the season to help the Formula 1 stewards take fairer decisions during the race.
Alain Prost, Damon Hill, Nigel Mansell and Alan Jones as well as Tom Kristensen joined stewards during the course of the season.
Kristensen, an eight-time Le Mans winner who was at the first Grand Prix of the season, in Australia, has qualified the experience as a success.
"It was a really good thing to put a driver within the stewards' rooms," Kristensen said on stage at the Autosport International Show. "It made the decision better for all last year.
"With the other drivers who were there, it put in the knowledge and no [F1] driver could cheat about what was going on. It made things fair and it made things better for the decision makers."
Not only will this use of professional drivers in the stewards’ panels be pursued in F1 in 2011, but it will also be expended to other sports regulated by the FIA.
