The British Formula 1 team Williams on Tuesday made clear it supports Felipe Massa's forthcoming test in a two-year old formula one Ferrari car.

Earlier this year, Sir Frank Williams objected to allowing Michael Schumacher a run in Ferrari's current F60 racer.

Last weekend at Suzuka, the stewards said Massa, 28, may test the F2007 at Fiorano, and in a media statement Williams indicated that the session will take place next Monday.

"I would like to wish Felipe well with his return to a formula one car next week," said Williams.

Eleven weeks after his Budapest qualifying crash, Massa is currently at Ferrari's Italian headquarters for simulator tests, and in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport he hinted that a return at the Abu Dhabi season finale has not been completely ruled out.

"I have a great desire to get back to racing, but I need to wait for the right moment, when I am completely fit again," he said.

Massa added that trying to return for his home race at Interlagos next weekend would be "too close to the limit".

On Tueday, Felipe spent around six hours in Modena, mainly dedicating himself to regaining confidence with the commands of a single-seater. through a simulator “We worked very well, without any problems, Felipe said at the end of the day on Ferrari.com.

“The simulator uses a A1GP single-seater, so it’s not exactly like Formula 1, but pretty close. I drove on the track in Barcelona to avoid creating an even bigger test atmosphere.”
