The Brazilian, nephew of the late Ayrton Senna was being given development mileage for experience rather than as an evaluation for Robert Kubica's vacant seat.
Heikki Kovalainen finished the day in 6th place in the Team Lotus T128, just ahead of Nico Rosberg in the Mercedes GP W02.
The team will be back in action from February 18 to 21 at the Circuit de Catalunya outside Barcelona, Spain.
