Former Grand Prix driver Johnny Herbert has agreed to be a formula one steward at a race or two later in 2010.

FIA president Jean Todt's initiative of installing an experienced former grand prix driver on the four-man stewards panel at each race is designed to speed up and add credibility to the rule-enforcing process.

Quadruple world champion Alain Prost is performing the duties at the 2010 championship opener, as the Frenchman was already at the Sakhir circuit for F1's 60th anniversary celebrations.

It emerges in Bahrain that, like three-time race winner Herbert, 1996 world champion Damon Hill will be a steward at two grands prix this season.

FIA sport president Graham Stoker confirmed that Hill, 49, will kick off his stewarding duty at Monaco.

Two other former F1 drivers, Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Alex Wurz have also agreed to appear as stewards in 2010.
