F1: Gary Paffett puts team McLaren on top if the charts

McLaren test driver Gary Paffett, a Mercedes driver in the DTM series set the fastest time of the day Wednesday in F1’s young drivers test session held at Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.

A drizzle during the middle of the afternoon left the track slippery, with lap times dropping off by around six seconds.

Once the track dried up, Nico Hulkenberg set the second fastest time in the Toyota-powered Williams, the car Spaniard Andy Soucek drove yesterday.

Daniel Ricciardo was again impressive behind the wheel of the Red Bull-Renault, finishing the day in third place ahead of DTM driver Paul di Resta, again driving the Force India.

Mexican Esteban Gutierrez was fifth in the BMW Sauber, beating Jules Bianchi who again drove for Ferrari and focused on long runs.
