Ho-Pin Tung is set to make his grand prix weekend debut at the wheel of a Renault.
Last week, the World Motor Sport Council approved a "four-race probationary super license" for the Dutch-born Chinese.
He currently races in GP2, but due to his management links to Renault's new owners, he had been in the running for a seat with the Enstone based team in 2010.
Ho-Pin Tung, 27, was instead signed as Renault's reserve driver.
Finland's Turun Sanomat cites "sources" in reporting that Tung is set to drive the R30 during a forthcoming Friday practice session.
It will make him the first ever Chinese driver to appear on track during a grand prix event.
