During a press conference held today, Sunday, representatives of the governments of Montreal, the province of Quebec and Canada confirmed that Bernie Ecclestone has refused the proposal to save the Grand Prix of Canada. There won't be a Formula 1 race in Montreal in 2009.

The mayor of Montreal, Gerald Tremblay and Raymond Bachand of the government of Quebec confirmed that Mr. Ecclestone was firmly asking for $175m over five years to stage the race in Montreal. In the perturbed worldwide economic situation, the governments refused to put forward so much money forward.
