Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne stayed on top of the timing sheets in Day 2 of the Formula 1 Young Driver Test at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi.

Vergne's Red Bull was hampered by small technical issues, but he managed to set as quick lap in 1m40,188 in the morning, compared to a time of 1m40.011s yesterday.

The team admitted that the day was a bit less productive due to sensor issues affecting running in the morning and a KERS issue in the afternoon.

Another Frenchman, Jules Bianchi, was again second in the Ferrari, just one tenth of a second behind Vergne. Bianchi worked on two main areas: new components linked to engine management and an evaluation of the experimental tires brought here by Pirelli.

Briton Gary Paffett drove the McLaren to third place overall despite the Mercedes losing its oil.

Finland's Valtteri Bottas was again impressive behind the wheel of the Cosworth-powered Williams, setting a time of 1m42.367. Bottas left the circuit seconds after he stepped out of the cockpit to travel to Macau to compete in the Formula 3 race.

Mexican Esteban Gutierrez ending the day sixth overall behind Force India's Johnny Cecotto Jr and in front of Mercedes' Sam Bird.

The Marussia Virgin team announced that Charles Pic will be back behind the wheel of the MVR-02 tomorrow morning before Canadian Robert Wickens takes over the driving duties in the afternoon. Wickens was supposed to have a full day of driving tomorrow.
