McLaren's Jenson Button clocked the fastest lap of the first day of pre-season testing ahead of the 2013 Formula 1 season.
Button lapped the Jerez circuit in 1min18.861s, despite experiencing problems with his fuel pump. His McLaren MP4-28 was on Pirelli's hard compound when the Brit clocked his best time.
Mark Webber, in the new Red Bull RB9 was second, and Frenchman Romain Grosjean, in his Lotus E21 third.
Nico Rosberg, aboard his Mercedes W04, managed only eight fastest, and 11 laps, before being sidelined by problems his team failed to identify.
Rookie Max Chilton brought up the rear in his Marussia MR02, slowed down by rear suspension problems.
Of all the drivers, Paul di Resta completed the most laps, racking up a total of 89 at the wheel of his Force India VJM06.
