McLaren's Formula 1 team's head of race operations Steve Hallam will switch from formula one to join NASCAR in a senior role at the end of 2008, the Woking based team announced.
Hallam has been with McLaren since 1990, race engineering Mika Hakkinen's back-to-back titles in 1998 and 1999.
Previously, he was Ayrton Senna and also Nigel Mansell's engineer.
"I understand his desire to spread his wings, and I wish him well," said McLaren chief executive Martin Whitmarsh.
Meanwhile, McLaren added a member to its race team at Monza, in the form of new head of vehicle design Andrew Bailey.
