Peter Sauber, the owner of the Sauber Motorsport Formula 1 team said he is confident of finding the sponsorship money he needs to compete in the 2011 F1 World Championship.
According to the notorious publication “Black Book Formula 1 One 2010” the Sauber outfit relied this year on a total budget of $156 millions in 2010 of which $90 came as compensatory money from the BMW Group, and $38 millions from the FOM as TV revenues.
Sauber is apparently in discussion with Mexican driver Sergio Perez who is heavily sponsored by Telmex. Perez is having a good season the GP2 series.
Telmex is owned by Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim Helu, the richest man in the world, according to Forbes magazine.
Slim could also be interesting in purchasing stakes of the Hinwil F1 team and to have Perez as a driver. The recent announcement of the US Grand Prix in Austin, Texas located just 250km from the Mexican border could greatly facilitate the arrival of Perez and Telmex in Formula 1.
Back in 1981, team Brabham owner Bernie Ecclestone hired Mexican driver Hector Rebaque to be Nelson Piquet’s teammate. Pemex, the state-owned petroleum company, was a heavy backer of Rebaque in those days.
