The Renault F1 employee found dead at the team's Enstone headquarters earlier this week shot himself in the head.

It emerged on Thursday that the death of the man, now identified as 53-year-old William Millar, may have involved the use of a gun.

We can now confirm that Millar, who has worked for the now French-owned outfit since its Benetton and Toleman days, was a research and development engineer.

He was found dead just before midday on Wednesday on a footpath outside the team's UK base with a bullet to the head.

Police are not treating the death as suspicious.

"Everyone at the team is deeply shocked to lose such a valued member of staff who had been with the team for 27 years," a spokesman said.
