BMW-Sauber Formula 1 driver Robert Kubica has no explanation for his bizarre loss of competitiveness right at the end of the 2008 season.

Until the Chinese grand prix, the 23-year-old Pole had an impressive year in his BMW-Sauber - winning the Canadian grand prix and leading the drivers' championship, and staying in contention for the title until Shanghai.

But in China and again in Brazil, Kubica struggled even to make the ignominious 'Q1' cut in qualifying, and ultimately lost his third place in the championship to Kimi Raikkonen.

"I do not have a clear picture yet of what happened, but clearly something went wrong," he told F1's official website.

Kubica, however, insisted that he did nothing to contribute to his poor end to 2008, and doesn't know why his teammate Nick Heidfeld was not similarly affected.

"To be frank, I have no clue," he explained, also declining to go into the detail of reported discussions with team boss Mario Theissen around the same time.

"I do not comment on our internal conversations," Kubica said.
