Red Bull Racing’s Mark Webber set the fastest time during the first free practice session at the Grand Prix of Singapore on Friday.
The street circuit was wet early in the session, then dry in certain areas. The quick lap times were set late in the final five minutes of the session.
Michael Schumacher was quickest with just minutes to go, but Webber beat his time moments later. Force India’s Adrian Sutil was third ahead of Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull), the surprising Jaime Alguersuari (Toro Rosso), Jenson Button (McLaren) and Vitantonio Liuzzi (Force India).
Heikki Kovalainen put his Lotus-Cosworth in 15th place and Felipe Massa was a lowly 19th in his Ferrari.
Newcomer Jerome d’Ambrosio did very well in the Virgin-Cosworth with a 21st place, ahead of Christian Klien in the Hispania car, taking the place of Sakon Yamamoto, victim of food poisoning.
