Team Lotus’ Technical Director Mike Gascoyne said in a recent interview posted on the team’s official web site that he expects the Renault-powered T128 to score points soon.

Gascoyne said the team had to be “reasonably pleased” with the performance of the T128 in the opening three races of the 2011 season.

“We had four out of six finishes in races and the car showed good pace,” said the British engineer.

“The car was quick in China especially (where Heikki Kovalainen finished 16th, and Jarno Trulli set the 14th fastest time of the race), and Heikki qualified very well in Malaysia as well,” he added.

“However, we’re still having some problems in cooler track temperatures,” he indicated.

Team Lotus will soon introduce updates to the T128, starting with the Grand Prix of Turkey held May 6-8.

“We’ll have small updates for Turkey and then major updates for Barcelona two weeks later with a new diffuser and a new rear end of the car. And then Monaco is straight after Barcelona. It’s a very special race due to the nature of the circuit,” said Gascoyne.

On his Twitter page, Kovalainen told that a small update can cut the lap times by 0.15 of a second while a major update can improve lap times by as much as 0.75 to a full second.
